about

Fall of '94, we had played a bunch of shows, made tons of friends, (still tuned at full volume between songs on stage), and had a cassette release from late 93 that we sold at shows, recorded on 4-track on the Marti's stage. By this point, though, we had a few newer and better songs, and it kinda felt like we should try and record at a proper studio.

We combed the ads of a random City Pages..made like one phone call, and showed up at some dude's Columbia Heights home studio on a Saturday morning. That was the extent of the vetting process. He seemed surprised that we were there at first, but sprang to action after confirming terms (the cheddar). We mic'd up, he turned the dials, drank Colt 45, and demanded we tune after every take, (which was still foreign to us at the time). We knocked it all out in a day. 7 songs tracked and mixed in 8-10 hours*...and then we got some tacos and drove back to Kato.

*Tracked and mixed = 30 minutes of mixing.

One of the songs (Pinch) ended up on a Allied Records 7" comp, which was amazing....but otherwise, the band ran its course as we finished school and moved along in life. Other than sharing with friends here and there over the years, this recording collected dust. Since then, I've had the reels stored in every basement I've had since.

There's no significant reason why now is the time. I don't know, documentation feeling important, is probably the main idea. And given the moment...missing shows, missing practice, missing in person interaction of any sort...I remembered I loved this band, these times and these songs.

If anyone cares to pay more than 0.00, I'll pass every cent to #SaveOurStages and email you a screenshot of the donation. I miss shows dearly.

See you just outside of the pit.

about

Crease Mankato, Minnesota

Crease was a punk rock band from the summer of 1993 till the spring of 1995.

We kinda followed the trajectory of Marti's as Mankato, Minnesota's rock venue in parallel.

It was an insanely formative time as life always is at that age, I guess. Mankato punk rock was our favorite thing in the world then and Marti's was home base for all of it.
